Climate Crisis Books: What You Must Read to Know What's happening

The consequences of Climate change are hitting us back and forth. It is time for us humans to start thinking about the impact of Climate change. If you are aware of what climate change might be but would like to know more about it, there might be a couple of Climate Change Books that will help you have a better understanding of what the situation is like these days. Climate Crisis books are available either in digital or printed versions. But why get a printed version when you can save some trees while getting a digital copy?

From rising temperatures to tsunamis and wildfires, we have seen more catastrophic disasters in the past few years than our parents have seen in their lives. These phenomena are simply climate change indicators that have doubled up since forty years ago, according to the European Climate Foundation. In the past few years, we have witnessed devastating wildfires across all of Australia, California, and Turkey, while the southwest hemisphere has been flooded by the excessive amount of rainfall.

Statistics show us that from all of the extreme weather events happening around us for the past 20 years, at least 68 percent have been made more severe by consequence of human action. Realizing this was the first step into different types of studies that show how human activities impact the environment. These studies are now written and published in different Climate Change Books, giving us the power of more understanding of the matter.

Climate change books recover data from different research to establish how different human actions have made these extreme weather events more likely to happen. It has been proven that some industries, like mining or gas, are more likely to damage the environment. Climate crisis books recover all this information and share it with us, so we can start being aware of our own impact on this planet.

The Climate Activists all claim in their climate change books that not all hope is lost; there are still different kinds of things that we can do from our own spot that could prevent climate change from happening as fast as it looks like it will happen. One of the tiniest things we could do, is pick up a climate change book, learn and understand these facts about our planet. This, will help us have better discussions and solid arguments to face a conversation about climate change.

There are different types of climate change books worth reading, each of them will give you a different opinion and focus on the change itself, but all of them will agree that we need to stop behaving the way we are used to if we want to stop climate change from happening.

So, if you are interested in reading climate change books but are still a little unsure of where to begin, I will recommend some climate crisis books that will help you have a better understanding of it. With earth's temperature rising up and natural disasters happening more frequently, the environment is rapidly moving to a breaking point from where we won’t be able to come back.

Understanding the series of facts about the status of Earth is just the beginning of the climate change journey; next, you have the urge to explore the sociopolitical junctions of those facts; I mean, nothing is casual here from the rapidly changing climate to the little information we receive about it. We need to start focusing on climate-friendly policy initiatives and ask the state to do the same.

I’m going to share with you four books that changed my perspective regarding climate change. These climate change books helped me have a better understanding of the problem we are facing now!

McIntosh is an independent Scottish activist, writer, broadcaster, and speaker who is super involved in a wide range of present issues such as climate change, globalization, and ecology. Alastair McIntosh has a degree in Geography, sub-majoring in psychology and philosophy, from the University of Aberdeen. Also, he has an MBA specializing in finance, and a PhD published works on liberation theology and contemporary Scottish land reform.

In his book “Riders on the Storm, the Climate crisis and the survival of being” McIntosh invites us to think about the power of politics around climate change. Alastair proposes that climate change is the most greatest challenge that humankind is facing nowadays. Especially around Coronavirus times, this book shares some light on the vulnerability of the world, how we know it, and the connection between global warming and human behavior.

“What if we were to take climate change not just as a threat, but as an opportunity to deepen our humanity?”

Alastair McIntosh

A positive approach goes against yellow and alarmist speeches about how we are all going to die soon if we do not stop this but focus on a more positive insight that tempts us to evolve towards a greener future culturally. His words are humble enough to allow us to look for different perspectives.

I felt engaged with McIntosh and his ideas while reading the book; his humility and self-awareness made me keep reading until the end. From history and facts to a spiritual insight into these problems we are facing nowadays, this climate change book has made me re-think what we are doing today!

One of the main issues regarding climate change is about how politicians are usually not willing to link human action to catastrophic events and start designing policies to stop this. Jason Hickel unfolds this problem in his book “Less is More: How degrowth will save the world” and exposes that the solution to this issue might be much more complex than we initially thought.

Less is more” is a must-read for every politician, I would say, it contributes to all these new bodies of expertise and work around the climate crisis, and everyone who is concerned about it should read it.

One of the central ideas of Hickel’s book is that there is nothing natural or essential around the productivism behavior concept we have been taught to link with the homo economicus. What the author exposes is that we have been “programmed” through the years around productivity to behave in certain ways that not only are not good for humans but that is also destroying the environment.

Hickel points out that one of the main reasons we are destroying the planet is the consumption and appropriation of a high amount of resources and wealth. Inequality is one of the more, if not the most, substantial and deliberate by-products of the expansion of capitalism. This is, as per Hickel, what we need to review in order to stop climate change once and for all.

This is an original climate change book that will show you the concept of degrowth, which means downscaling the energy and resources that we use in society in order to live in balance with nature. It focuses on finding the most equitable way for us to survive on Earth.

Jason Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fulbright Scholar, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is originally from Eswatini (Swaziland) and spent several years with migrant workers in South Africa, writing about exploitation and political resistance in the wake of apartheid.

On the Future Earth, climate change journalist: Eric Holthaus drafts a summary of what climate change might be like, decade by decade until everything is gone. The book is scheduled in three main chapters focusing on the upcoming decades of ’20, ’30, and ’40.

Through the pages, Holthaus describes how the future might look like while the projected changes around the environment take place and how people will be affected by it. Holthaus describes how many things can go wrong and how many aspects of climate change might happen faster than we thought.

This climate crisis book opens up different questions, which kind of solutions could arise if countries started working together to face this inevitable reality.

This is a hopeful book, despite the grief and anger towards climate change causes. Its brutal honesty makes the reader question their own actions while opening up the space to search for a solution.

Being the Change: Live Well and Spark a Climate Revolution by Peter Kalmus

While most climate crisis books might sound a little overwhelming, Kalmus comes up with his uplifting point of view on climate change. Based on the well-known phrase “be the change you wish to see in the world,” Kalmus writes this book with a positive and calming approach toward the topic.

Kalmus reviews the word that we use to refer to climate change, placing them in context and deconstructing them from their own meaning. For example, he goes against using the word green around sustainable resources as it lacks meaning.

Being the change: live well and spark a climate revolution” is a coordinated map to face climate change without ruining the economy, as the author may say. The main concept of this book is to set examples by changing our lifestyles to change the world. This book empowers the reader to act instead of just getting to know what is going on around them.

Reading is a great option for a better understatement of what's going on regarding Climate Change. There is still lots to do, so let's get on it!
